ChemSolutions is a small software development enterprise which produces software for secondary school science and ICT teachers. Founded by Dr Andrew Miller (Head of ICT at Plymouth College, and previously a practising chemistry teacher), it has already produced several successful titles, all of which have been written to satisfy the genuine requirements of teacher colleagues. The applications have been produced using Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access or Visual Basic. More recently, ChemSolutions has begun producing database-driven web applications for aspects of school administration.
The software portfolio contains these products:
Software to take exams scores and produce grades, scattergrams and rank listings.
Software to datalog pH titrations or mass-loss reactions, such as that between calcium carbonate and hydrochloric acid.
Microsoft Access based database which produces risk assessments for experiments, based on known hazards and control methods. For an online version of this software, please visit www.chemrisk.co.uk.
PC-based mathematical simulations of chemical processes. This software is free, thanks to the generosity of the Royal Society of Chemistry.
A number of add-ons to enrich school websites are available, plus expertise in web site building.
Software titles in each section have been written to help with ICT in the UK secondary school chemistry classroom, the science department office and the school intranet/website. Please browse through the descriptions and if you see something of interest, contact Chemsolutions. I will send you a free trial version of the software so that you can examine it in more detail. If you like it, read the terms and conditions page to find out how to buy it. The programs are most easily used by someone who has some experience of Excel or Access already - or is willing to learn! All the programs have been written in response to a particular need of practising science or ICT teacher colleagues.
